Heart to Heart International is partnering with FedEx and International Medical Corps (IMC) to provide relief efforts to those impacted by the famine in Ethiopia.
Heart to Heart has sent eleven skids of care kits (3,960 individual kits) from our FedEx Paris warehouse to IMC in Ethiopia. These kits will be dispersed to the Kobe refugee camp in the Dollo Ado region in southeast Ethiopia.
The Kobe camp is one of four camps in the Dollo Ado region. It opened in June when Somalis fleeing drought and conflict poured over the border in large numbers. Kobe reached its 25,000-person capacity in a month. New arrivals from Somalia are being directed elsewhere but, unfortunately, the death toll is not slowing.
Each Heart to Heart International care kit contains the following items:
- a new hand towel and washcloth
- a wide-tooth comb
- a three-ounce bottle of shampoo
- a wrapped toothbrush
- a travel sized tube of toothpaste
- a bar of wrapped soap with a soap dish
- 10 adhesive bandages
- 2 one-gallon sized zipper bags, which hold all the contents.
The Heart to Heart International care kits will be used by IMC to enhance their relief efforts in Ethiopia. These efforts include an emergency malnutrition initiative designed to help reduce the mortality rate amongst malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women who have no access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.
