Heart to Heart prepares water-treatment plant for Thailand

OLATHE, Kan./May 30, 2005 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading humanitarian organization, today announced that it will facilitate the construction of a water-treatment plant in Thailand. Working with Parkson Corp., all of the components for the water plant will be transported by sea to a region near the Thai resort city of Phuket. FedEx Trade Networks is providing the transportation and logistics support for this shipment.

“We are delighted that Parkson has joined us in this initiative to bring clean drinking water to the people of Kuk Kak,” said Barbi Moore, Heart to Heart’s senior vice president for International Programs. “Our government sources tell us that this region has been rationing water for weeks, so this initiative aims to alleviate that burden and quench the thirst of tsunami survivors.”

Kansas City-based Black & Veatch provided initial land survey of the site in Kuk Kak. Heart to Heart is partnering with a special branch of the Peace Corps to handle project management in Thailand. It will be completed this fall.

Since early January, Heart to Heart has been responding to the needs of tsunami victims throughout the Indian Ocean region. While the focus of its humanitarian programming is medical in nature, Heart to Heart is exploring more ways to assist the people of this region, including rebuilding projects.
