Group launches relief effort in wake of Hurricane Katrina
OLATHE, Kan./August 30, 2005 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading humanitarian organization, today said that it is mobilizing to respond to people in crisis throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, following the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina.
“People in the Gulf Coast region have sent out a national 911 and Heart to Heart is responding,” said Jon North, Heart to Heart’s CEO. “We actually received a call from a bunker in Jefferson Parish, asking specifically for our help. Our message: Help is on the way.”
Heart to Heart sent a truckload of food, water and medical supplies to that location and is ramping up for a broader response as evacuees seek shelter from the storms.
Starting this weekend, Kansas City residents can support Heart to Heart’s hurricane-relief effort by making donations at any area Sam’s Club store. A FedEx truck will be stationed at each store location to help collect donations of nonperishable food items, hygiene products, cleaning supplies and bottled water.
Heart to Heart is also accepting financial donations, which the organization leverages efficiently to procure much-needed medicines and supplies for this relief effort. Individuals and companies may give in the following ways:
