Group’s clinics along Gulf Coast treat more than 10,000 patients since Sept. 2005
OLATHE, Kan./May 22, 2005 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading humanitarian organization, today announced that it has moved its mobile health clinic from Methodist Hospital to a new location in the Broadmoor neighborhood. The clinic is now positioned at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation to treat people in the Broadmoor area, near the Garden District of downtown New Orleans.
“We are continuing to work with health officials in New Orleans to find pockets of unmet needs and bring the Heart to Heart brand of healing to these areas,” said Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart’s vice president for Global Crisis Response. “There are no functioning hospitals or clinics in the Broadmoor area, which is home to thousands of residents that did not leave their homes or could not afford to leave prior to Hurricane Katrina.”
The clinic opened today and is expected to see an influx of nearly 100 patients a day. Three medical volunteers and a part-time staff person run the Heart to Heart clinic on a regular basis.
Since early September 2005, Heart to Heart has treated more than 10,000 patients at its free health clinics in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Heart to Heart needs medical professionals to volunteer for seven- to 10-day shifts at the health clinic. The organization will provide food, housing and transportation once volunteers are onsite.
