OLATHE, Kan./October 26, 2006 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that it is hosting the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD) in Kansas City, Oct. 26-28.
PQMD includes 13 of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies and 15 of the leading humanitarian organizations involving in distributing medical aid around the world. Heart to Heart joined PQMD shortly after the consortium was formed in 1999.
“It is truly an honor to host this industry gathering,” said André T. Butler, Heart to Heart’s vice president for resource development and chair of PQMD communications committee. “Though many members have known Heart to Heart for many years, this will likely be their first exposure to our humanitarian operations and the wonderful metro area where we’re based.”
PQMD members will arrive this afternoon and attend an after-hours reception tonight at Heart to Heart’s Global Distribution Center in Kansas City, Kan.
Tomorrow, the membership and special guests will dialogue on the topic, “Share Our Strength: Preparation, Planning and Emergency Response.” The pharmaceutical industry is looking for guidance from the humanitarian sector on best practices in medical donations during global emergencies such as last year’s tsunami in the Indian Ocean, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast and the massive earthquake in Pakistan.
Heart to Heart will be represented by both Mr. Butler and Dr. Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart’s vice president for global crisis response. Dr. DeGraffenreid will be a keynote speaker and will serve as a panelist on a roundtable discussion regarding past experiences in emergency response.
