OLATHE, Kan./December 28, 2006 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today said it activated its Forward Response Center in Dubai to address an emerging crisis in the African nation of Chad, where hundreds of thousands of people have fled from the Darfur region in neighboring Sudan amid a new wave of violence.
“The government of Chad does not have the resources to help these refugees,” said Dr. Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart’s vice president for global crisis response. “We are working with our humanitarian partners at the International Medical Corps to provide basic care to people who have witnessed too much violence in their lives and are often caught between warring factions.”
Heart to Heart sent an aid shipment of 8 tons consisting mostly of blankets and hygiene kits from its newly established Forward Response Center in Dubai as part of growing relationship with FedEx.
The situation in Chad is temporary. The local government has expressed concern over the flood of refugees from Sudan. Heart to Heart and its humanitarian network will continue to support local efforts to provide care until the refugees can return safely home.
