Heart to Heart celebrates decade of service in China

CHENGDU, China/May 24, 2007—Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, announced today that it will host a banquet tonight in the Sichuan capital of Chengdu to celebrate 10 years of humanitarian service in collaboration with local health officials.

Starting with a medical airlift to Chengdu in April 1997, Heart to Heart has been working to improve health through initiatives that reduce infant mortality, restore vision and increase response capacity to local emergencies.

“It has been a wonderful decade of service in partnership with our Chinese friends,” said Barbi Moore, Heart to Heart’s chief advancement officer. “Together, we have helped build capacity and increase access to essential health services. We have also torn down walls of misunderstanding between our two cultures by bringing hundreds of Americans to Sichuan as part of our humanitarian programs in Chengdu and beyond.”

Heart to Heart has an office in Chengdu and operates a clinic under the leadership of Dr. Brian Robinson, Heart to Heart’s medical director in China. Dr. Robinson and his staff oversee the organization’s year-round health initiatives and coordinate volunteer teams that arrive periodically to advance Heart to Heart’s humanitarian mission.

Nearly 40 volunteers from coast to coast are traveling with Heart to Heart this week. These volunteers are involved in health-focused programs as well as service projects at a school for deaf children and a home for the elderly.
