OLATHE, Kan. (Feb. 8, 2008) — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today said it is responding to tornado victims in Denmark, Tenn., following a deadly storm that spawned dozens of tornadoes and struck several communities across the Missouri, Mississippi and Ohio valleys Tuesday night.
Heart to Heart is assembling a volunteer team that will travel from its headquarters in Olathe (401 S. Clairborne) on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 7 a.m. The team will deliver relief supplies and assist local residents in Denmark, a small town south of Jackson, Tenn.
“Our response caravan is heading to Tennessee on Saturday,” said Dr. Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart’s chief programs officer. “We are sending a construction trailer, targeted relief supplies and a handful of caring volunteers to a region that has not received a lot of attention. Our team will be addressing unmet needs and should make a big impact in a relatively small community.”
The team will distribute water and hygiene kits, and help clear debris from damaged homes and businesses.
Heart to Heart is currently responding to several crises in the U.S. and around the world—from Greensburg (Kan.) and New Orleans to Kenya and Sri Lanka.
