Humanitarian organization providing medical aid, assistance from office in China
OLATHE, Kan./May 12,2008 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that its office in China is responding with medical aid and direct medical services to people affected by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck last night in the southwestern province of Sichuan. The organization has an office and clinic in the Sichuan capital of Chengdu.
“Our team mobilized quickly last night and was onsite near the epicenter in Beichuan County,” said Dr. Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart’s chief programs officer. “Our medical director and his staff have transported aid to the affected towns and are providing medical assistance in support of local relief efforts.”
Heart to Heart has been working in Sichuan for more than 10 years and has established strong ties to the provincial health bureau, as the organization supports several ongoing health initiatives. Heart to Heart also has a strategic partnership with China’s national relief network.
The organization will continue to respond and support local efforts as long as necessary.
Heart to Heart is still responding to cyclone victims in Myanmar, so this latest international disaster is stretching the organization’s resources. Heart to Heart requests financial support to care for disaster survivors all around the world.
