OLATHE, Kan./July 10, 2008 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that the Kansas City Royals are encouraging fans to join the Major League team in supporting Heart to Heart’s relief efforts in the Midwest at this Sunday’s game against the Seattle Mariners. The organization and its volunteers will collect cash donations prior to, and during, the game, which is slated to start at 1:10 p.m.
“The Kansas City Royals understand relief,” said Andre Butler, Heart to Heart’s chief advancement officer. “Not only do they have one of the best relief pitchers in the game, but they are also working with us to provide relief to communities hit hard by severe weather this spring.”
Heart to Heart is helping families recover after recent storms caused the Mississippi River to flood communities in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. The organization continues to support rebuilding efforts in Greensburg, Kan., which was nearly wiped off the map in May 2007 by a massive tornado.
“We are pleased to support a hometown organization,” said Toby Cook, vice president of Community Relations and Publicity for the Kansas City Royals. “We worked with Heart to Heart last year during the tornado-relief efforts in Greensburg and were heartened by how our contribution played an important part in bringing smiles to storm victims.”
Fans attending Sunday’s game will have an opportunity to support the relief efforts. Volunteers wearing red and white t-shirts will be positioned at gate areas throughout Kauffman Stadium to collect cash donations.
Local businesses can follow the Royals’ lead and support Heart to Heart’s relief efforts in a variety of ways. For more information, contact Heart to Heart by calling 913-764-5200.
