Heart to Heart impacting maternal health in Bolivia

OLATHE, Kan./July 25, 2008 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that it is working with Hospitals of Hope in Bolivia to host a maternal-health training session in Cochabamba.

Underwritten by a grant from the Abbott Fund and support by the American Academy of Family Physicians, Heart to Heart volunteers will lead a five-day session on Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®). The innovative train-the-trainer course is expected to provide more than 50 delivery-room personnel with the skills to manage obstetric emergencies during childbirth.

This maternal-health initiative is part of a broader Heart to Heart effort to determine the lasting effect that medical volunteers have on a local health system. Heart to Heart hopes to collect data from its multi-year program in Bolivia and develop a set of best practices for medical volunteers.

Individuals, groups and companies can support this initiative by making a cash donation or by volunteering in Bolivia. For more information, contact Leslie Maccracken, Heart to Heart’s senior program coordinator, at 913-764-5200.
