OLATHE, Kan./September 4, 2008 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that it is celebrating its 15-year anniversary with its health partners at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the AAFP Foundation at a special reception on Thursday, September 18, in San Diego.
The reception commemorates 15 years of the “Physicians With Heart” partnership, which served people in 10 of the former Soviet republics.
“Without the Academy and the Foundation, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” said Dr. Gary Morsch, Heart to Heart’s founder and president. “They opened the doors to many pharmaceutical companies, introduced us to the medical community, and established us as a credible humanitarian organization early in our history.”
Heart to Heart honored Dr. Daniel Ostergaard, AAFP vice president for professional affairs, and Sandy Panther, former executive vice president of the AAFP Foundation, with the Heart for Humanity Award in 2005.
The “Physicians With Heart” partnership was born in October 1993 with a medical airlift to St. Petersburg, Russia. In ensuing years, symposia on the concept of Family Medicine, topical seminars, and maternal-health training initiatives became the staple of the annual project.
Through this partnership, Heart to Heart helped promote health, provided more than $130 million (U.S. wholesale) worth of medical aid, and raised the quality of life for vulnerable populations.
The reception will take place at the close of the International Networking Session during the AAFP Annual Scientific Assembly at the San Diego Convention Center.
Alumni of past “Physicians With Heart” projects are encouraged to attend. For reservations, please contact Heart to Heart at 913-764-5200.
