Heart to Heart Responds to Victims of Hurricane Ike

Humanitarian organization in full “crisis mode” during busy Atlantic hurricane season

OLATHE, Kan./September 12,2008 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that it is responding with medical aid to people affected by Hurricane Ike, which cut a path of destruction through the Caribbean and is expected to make landfall tonight near Galveston, Texas.

“Heart to Heart is in full crisis mode right now, which means we are mobilizing all resources at our disposal to respond to people in crisis in the Caribbean and along the Texas coast, if needed,” said Dr. Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart’s chief operating officer. “This has been a busy Atlantic hurricane season and more storms are on the way, but we have a great support network and we believe our donors will rise to any challenge that comes our way.”

Heart to Heart is still responding in Haiti to survivors of Hurricane Gustav and is working with its humanitarian network to deliver aid to disaster victims affected by Hurricane Ike on several Caribbean islands, including the Dominican Republic, Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Heart to Heart is pre-staging requested product in Killeen, Texas, ahead of Hurricane Ike and is in communication with the National Association of Community Health Centers to offer one or more of the organization’s mobile clinics for safety-net medical care while local health facilities recover from any storm damage that may occur.

Heart to Heart is still responding to crises in the Midwest and other parts of the world, so this latest hurricane is stretching the organization’s resources. Heart to Heart requests financial support to care for disaster survivors all around the world.
