Humanitarian group collecting cleaning supplies for hurricane survivors in Texas
OLATHE, Kan./September 16, 2008 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that local Sam’s Club stores will host a collection drive on Heart to Heart’s behalf Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 17-20. Kansas City residents are encouraged to donate specific cleaning supplies or make a financial contribution to support Heart to Heart’s ongoing hurricane-relief reliefs in Texas.
“Sam’s Club has been one of our great community partners in times of crisis,” said Andre Butler, Heart to Heart’s chief advancement officer. “The location of their stores throughout the Kansas City metro area makes it easy for people to donate and help disaster victims.”
Heart to Heart is collecting brooms, large trash cans, heavy-duty trash bags, work gloves, generators, first-aid kits, all-purpose cleaner and bleach.
The collection drive begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday and goes through 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17-20. Consequently, Heart to Heart is requesting volunteer support to help staff the collection sites throughout the metro area. Individuals or groups can sign up for two- or four-hour shifts by calling Heart to Heart’s volunteer center at 913-764-5200.
Sam’s Club stores in Gladstone, Grandview, Independence, Lenexa and Overland Park have agreed to station relief supplies conveniently on the main aisle for members and non-members alike to purchase in support of Heart to Heart’s relief efforts.
FedEx has generously offered to transport all donated items to Heart to Heart’s warehouse in Kansas City, Kan. The company has also offered to transport all repackaged relief supplies on Heart to Heart’s behalf to affected regions throughout southeast Texas.
If people cannot make it to Sam’s Club during the collection drive this week, they can support Heart to Heart’s relief efforts by giving online at www.hearttoheart.org or by calling 866-341-GIVE.
