OLATHE, Kan./November 20, 2008 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today learned that two leading publications have listed it among the top privately funded charities in America—for the third year in a row.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy and Forbes magazine both recognized Heart to Heart’s growth in support and efficiency with donor resources by placing the organization in the top half of the “Philanthropy 400” and “Forbes 200” lists, respectively. The rankings appeared in the October 30 edition of the Chronicle of Philanthropy and online today at Forbes.com. In fact, Forbes ranked Heart to Heart as one of the most efficient charities in America (tied for the top spot with a handful of other organizations).
“These dual honors are a testament to the quality work of our dedicated staff and volunteers,” said Jon D. North, Heart to Heart’s CEO. “We value the precious trust that donors place in us and we work diligently to maximize every contribution in our efforts to create a healthier world. Without our supporters, we couldn’t achieve our mission or receive these prestigious accolades.”
Heart to Heart was ranked #170 on the “Philanthropy 400” and #98 on the “Forbes 200”. Both publications used public IRS filings and other financial data from 2007 as a basis for their rankings.
Last year, the organization received $119 million in private support (cash donations and in-kind gifts); maintained a historically low overhead (1 percent in 2007); and yielded high impact for every donor dollar (delivering $53 worth of aid to nearly 60 countries, including the United States, for every $1 cash donation).
