Local companies rally to support group’s efforts to improve health locally and globally
OLATHE, Kan./January 22, 2009 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today said that it will be installing a cold-storage unit on Saturday, Jan. 24, at its Global Distribution Center at 1021 Pacific Ave. in Kansas City, Kan.
The 14,000-cubic-foot, refrigerated unit is expected to store life-saving medications, such as insulin, for Heart to Heart’s local and global health initiatives. Much of the hardware and labor has been donated by local businesses.
“Without the support of several charitable companies, this day might never have come,” said Jon D. North, Heart to Heart’s CEO. “Now we can deliver life-saving medicines requiring cold storage more efficiently to underserved people in Kansas City, in the United States and almost anywhere in the world.”
North approached cfm Distributors last year about the need for a cold-storage unit. The company, which has been instrumental in other major improvements to Heart to Heart’s warehouse facility, decided to get its vendors involved in the project.
“Bringing all of these companies together to support such a worthy organization as Heart to Heart is extremely satisfying for me both personally and professionally,” said Tom Roberts, CEO of cfm Distributors. “It’s gratifying to know that our effort will save lives in the long run. Kevin Morris, Refrigeration Director at cfm Distributors really took the ball and ran with it. He helped our great friends in the manufacturing and contracting world realize what a unique opportunity to serve this was for all of us. It takes someone like Kevin to put the pieces together and make it all happen.”
Roberts said cfm Distributors solicited support from Heatcraft, Reliable Mechanical of Kearney, Mo., and U.S. Cooler.
“They all were enthusiastic participants in helping Heart to Heart fulfill its mission. We are very lucky to count such friends as suppliers and customers,” Roberts added. “Their contributions will make a real difference to many Heart to Heart clients the world over. It’s heartwarming to see what many can do when they work together.”
