Heart to Heart Secures Two Grants
to Enhance Local Health Outreach

OLATHE, Kan./June 11, 2009 — Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, today announced that it has received two grants—one from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City and the other from the REACH Foundation—to enhance its ongoing local health efforts.

The two grants will provide Heart to Heart with approximately $160,000 to address shortages in medicines and supplies at safety-net clinics in the metropolitan area.

“We have fortified our local health outreach in recent years, so it’s gratifying that these foundations have recognized our efforts,” said Andre T. Butler, Heart to Heart’s chief advancement officer. “These funds will strengthen our health services in Kansas City and will help us demonstrate the scalability of our humanitarian programs regionally, nationally and globally.”

As part of the grant from Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, Heart to Heart is providing additional pharmaceutical and laboratory support to several free health clinics across the metro area. These clinics have reported significant increases in patients—many of whom lost their health benefits when they recently lost their jobs. The clinics often operate on very tight budgets, so an influx of medicines and supplies should help the clinics address local health needs.

The grant from the REACH Foundation will enable Heart to Heart to address diabetic care at safety-net clinics in Kansas City. As part of the grant, Heart to Heart will help several clinics expand testing and treatment of at-risk populations and provide follow-up care through referral services.

Both foundations mentioned being impressed with Heart to Heart’s ability to procure and deliver high-quality donations of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
