According to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), more than five million Syrians are now refugees. This means around a quarter of Syria’s population has fled their country since the start of the conflict in March 2011. As they struggle to survive and relocate, millions of people routinely lack basic personal care or hygiene necessities that can help prevent illness. Most of those displaced are women and children, with over 50 percent of refugees being children under the age of 18.
Refugee Aid Containers are loaded in Kansas City and delivered by truck to US shipping ports. They are shipped to international ports; pass through customs and then delivered directly to refugees. Thus far we have distributed refugee aid in Greece, Serbia and Turkey. We expect to be able to deliver relief directly into Syria in the near future.
Consequently, aid groups continue to urge the international community to end the country’s six-year war and provide more assistance.
To help provide these needed supplies, HHI hosted Faith and Heart, a fun event held at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York City on June 2016. During this event sponsored by Henry Schein, The Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, BD, FedEx, Henry, 900 diverse volunteers built 7,500 hygiene kits for Syrian refugees. These kits were then distributed in refugee camps in Turkey through Orient for Human Relief.
Sept. 2015 – HHI responded to the Syrian refugee crisis unfolding in Europe. An initial shipment of aid went to Greece and HHI placed a team on the ground in Croatia, working with relief agencies and partner organizations to coordinate delivery… Our team visited temporary camps erected along the Croatia/Serbian border, reporting back that although refugees rotate through every 24-36 hours, the camps are overflowing capacity.
June 2016 – HHI sponsored an event on Sunday, June 26, in conjunction with the Multi Faith Alliance for Syrian Refugees and American Jewish Distribution Committee. This event brought together over 900 volunteers who assembled hygiene kits. These kits were shipped to Turkey and distributed to refugees by Orient for Human Relief. A full container of these kits and medical supplies arrived in Turkey in October 2016. See photo here!
Jan. 2017 – A second full container containing medicines, medical supplies, hygiene kits and family tents was delivered to Turkey. These items recently arrived and are being distributed to Syrian refugees by Orient for Human Relief.
We put a lot of work and care into making sure the product we ship gets to the intended destination and directly in the hands of people in need. HHI is currently working on sending another cargo container.
