HIV/AIDS is blazing a killer path across much of Africa. Over the past three years, Heart to Heart has been working to reduce the suffering of this infectious disease. Working with humanitarian partners in countries like Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), we are training healthcare workers on an innovative medication that combats the pain and discomfort caused by oral thrush, an opportunistic disease that disproportionately attacks people with vulnerable immune systems. Though the medication has been on the market in many developed countries for several years, it is relatively new to Africa. Heart to Heart is making it available free of charge to hospitals and clinics that treat people who cannot otherwise afford the medication. As awareness of this medication spreads in the medical community, more patients will receive treatment.
Working with Johnson & Johnson and other health partners, we are ensuring that impoverished people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa have access to medicines and supplies that mitigate the symptoms of their chronic disease.
