Good health is the foundation of a thriving life. However, access to basic healthcare resources can be overwhelming when factors like transportation, cost, and time stand in the way. At Heart to Heart International, we believe that quality care should always be within reach for all.
As a healthcare nonprofit, our mission is to bring critical health services directly to under-resourced communities. By partnering with local clinics, schools, and community centers, we remove the most common hurdles to medical care. Whether it is a routine health screening, a vital diagnostic test, or access to daily medications, our compassionate approach ensures that individuals are seen, supported, and empowered to take charge of their health.
This community-centered approach helps ensure that healthcare access is not only available, but relevant, responsive, and connected to the resources people need to stay healthy.
Navigating the healthcare system is a complex and often overwhelming journey. For many individuals in under-resourced communities, systemic gaps leave essential, life-saving care entirely out of reach. A lack of comprehensive health insurance frequently forces families to make impossible choices between paying for a medical visit or covering basic household necessities.
However, the challenges extend far beyond insurance. Everyday logistical barriers often stand in the way. Attending a medical appointment requires reliable transportation, and for hourly workers, it usually means taking unpaid time off work or finding childcare—sacrifices that many simply cannot afford to make. When these barriers compound, manageable conditions can quickly escalate into healthcare crises.
We address these gaps directly. By bringing healthcare services into the community, we remove physical and financial barriers to ensure that healthcare is not a privilege, but an accessible reality.
Delivering Compassionate Care to Those Who Need It Most
Our programs are intentionally designed to support the individuals and families who are most frequently left out of the traditional medical system. The impact of our work directly benefits:
Uninsured and Underinsured Individuals: We provide a vital safety net for those who lack comprehensive health coverage, ensuring a lack of insurance never means a lack of care.
Low-Income Families: We remove the cost barrier for hardworking parents and caregivers who are often forced to choose between essential daily household expenses and seeking medical treatment.
Unhoused Neighbors: We deliver direct and dignified care to individuals experiencing housing insecurity. These individuals face unique and urgent health challenges without a safe, consistent place to rest and recover.
Historically Marginalized Communities: We actively work to address systemic inequities by providing accessible, high-quality care to minority populations who have long faced disparities in health outcomes.
When natural disasters upend daily life, our Disaster Response Team steps in to stabilize health access for under resourced communities. Our response can include emergency medical teams, mobile medical vehicles, portable clinics, and support for local healthcare organizations.
Diabetes Support & Nutrition
Through partnerships, we offer interactive programs that include A1c checks combined with hands-on nutrition coaching. These health screenings help catch early signs of diabetes before symptoms get worse. Early detection is crucial in managing the disease, preventing complications and reducing long-term health risks. Testing also helps individuals safely and effectively manage their blood sugar.
Point-of-Care Labs
Point-of-care laboratories allow providers to run crucial tests—including HbA1c, lipid profiles, and rapid infectious disease screenings—while the patient is still in the exam room. This leads to faster diagnoses, more accurate treatment plans, and peace of mind without the burden of extra travel or hidden fees.
Mental Health Support
Health is more than physical well-being. Our Community Health efforts also include resources that support emotional well-being and help communities access tools for navigating stress and other challenges.
Pediatric Vision Care
Uncorrected vision can drastically hinder a child’s ability to learn and grow. Partnering with local eye clinics and school districts, we support partners who bring portable vision equipment directly into elementary schools, providing comprehensive screenings and free eyeglasses to students who need them.
Access to Medicine
Managing chronic conditions or recovering from illness requires consistent access to medication and medical supplies. By working with a robust network of healthcare partners, we distribute essential medications and high-quality medical equipment to under-resourced communities.
Women’s Health
We partner with local healthcare organizations to make essential women’s health services more accessible, including breast cancer screenings. Mobile medical clinics can help bring these services directly into communities, reducing transportation challenges and other barriers to care.
Vaccination Access
Vaccines are an important part of preventive healthcare. HHI helps expand vaccination access in under-resourced communities, including free vaccines such as flu and COVID-19 vaccines through community health initiatives.
Medical Equipment Donation
Essential medical equipment allows individuals to regain their independence and live safely. These donations help improve quality of life and prevent further health complications.
Hygiene Kits
Hygiene kits are a powerful tool for preventing the spread of illness and disease in crowded or unsanitary conditions. We distribute these kits to under-resourced communities to help keep families healthy.
Community Health Collaborators: We work together with trusted local organizations to deliver comprehensive care. These partnerships allow us to seamlessly connect individuals with specialized medical, vision, and social services right in their own neighborhoods.
Free and Charitable Clinics: Through our Laboratory program, we have supported more than 74 free and charitable health clinics across the country. These clinics serve as vital safety nets, offering essential care to uninsured and underinsured individuals. By equipping clinics with point-of-care laboratories, we empower medical teams to provide immediate, accurate diagnoses and treatments without passing on extra costs to the patient.
Community Events & Fairs: We believe healthcare shouldn’t require a difficult commute. That is why we actively partner with local organizations to bring our services directly to the public through neighborhood health fairs and community events. Whether providing rapid screenings or distributing hygiene kits, we meet people exactly where they are, in environments where they feel welcomed and safe.
Disaster Response Partners: Our partners are critical to our disaster response efforts, after natural disasters, humanitarian conflicts or in war-affected regions. When disaster strikes, we reach out to our partners on the ground to evaluate and understand the immediate needs. This helps us ensure that medicines, hygiene kits, medical aid and relief equipment reaches those who need it the most.
We Are Improving Access to Healthcare
As a Healthcare Nonprofit Organization, we are committed to care, from disaster zones to under-resourced communities.
Healthcare can change the course of a life, but access to healthcare often depends on whether the right services, supplies, and support are available at the right time.
Heart to Heart International is working to change that.
Your support helps us bring healthcare services into communities, equip local clinics, provide essential medicines, strengthen laboratory capacity, respond when disasters strike, and partner with organizations that understand the needs of the people they serve.
Join us in removing barriers to care and uplifting under-resourced communities locally and around the world.
Your loyalty helps us not to give up and gives us the feeling of a reliable shoulder to lean on.
Fundación Una

Fundacion Nueva
If the only thing that was useful from your shipment was this wheelchair, it would’ve all been worth it because you changed this man’s life.” – Fundación Nueva Alegria in Dominican Republic
Tebenguni
May I take this opportunity to thank the donors for saving my life. I was afraid I would die after the snake bite. The medical care was amazing.” – Tebenguni, a 15-year-old girl in Eswatini, who received life-saving care thanks to donated medical supplies.
Testimonials
What this organization is doing for people in the US and all over the world is nothing short of amazing. Spending a few hours to volunteer was a great experience and I would definitely encourage everyone to find time to contribute!

I volunteer, along with others, who have a common goal. To help and support the staff as they organize then head out across the globe with hygiene kits, medicines and mobile clinics. When a request comes in for help from HHI, staff is ready and willing to help but it also takes many volunteers and donations to support this goal.

I read a lot of news every day because I want to know what is going on around me and in the world. Being aware of the many disasters and injustices can feel like a huge burden to carry. Volunteering at Heart to Heart gives me the sense that I am helping in a small way and I’m not just involved with my own stuff.

As I’m aging, I realized how blessed I’ve been in so many ways. In my younger years, I worked a lot with the homeless community. As I’m aging I wanted to still give back to my community but do it closer to my home. I volunteered at Heart to Heart with a church group and decided I liked their mission. I’m just one person, but uniting with a group like Heart to Heart I can do so much more.

I feel so privileged to be able to help anyone in need. I’ve learned so much from people who are humbled by life’s struggles. As one person told me, “we’re all just one disaster from homelessness.” Every person should volunteer at least once in their life.

I love to provide quality time in service. Service is at the core of my being. My parents taught me when I was a child to never stop serving and loving people.

I love being able to do something for others especially in a real time of need. Serving fills my cup and blesses my heart. It never ceases to amaze me that in the middle of all the tragedy, those we serve always thank us for being there.

Volunteering reminds me that healing doesn’t always come in big moments; it often shows up in simple acts of kindness, shared humanity, and showing up for people when they feel forgotten. That’s why I’m proud to serve.

I volunteer with Heart to Heart in order to “pay back” for what I have received in that “giving in need” chain. Having been on the receiving end of a disaster, I know what it means to get that package of immediate needs, and am so, so thankful for those that make that happen. Just my small part in my volunteer journey to “give back”.

In October 2024 I was deployed with Heart to Heart to North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. On our last day there we were able to help a young woman by refilling her prescription medication that she had been unable to get. As I was saying goodbye, she told me that she was grateful we could help her as it was one less thing she had to do following this disaster. She was tearful and we gave each other a hug. It reminded me that even this small service can have a very positive impact on a person’s life.

Despite being a physician used to heal and help others, volunteering and helping people in very vulnerable situations has been extremely rewarding. Their appreciation and resilience in face of tremendous adversity is grounding and inspiring.

My family has been on the receiving end for Hygiene Kits after natural disasters (major flood in Great Bend, KS and F4 tornado in Hoisington, KS). I know exactly how it feels to receive a Hygiene Kit when your personal items are gone. I am grateful, HHI gives me the opportunity to pay if forward!

Having lost all our possessions/home in a tornado, I have great empathy/sympathy for those thrust into disaster/loss. I was on the receiving side of immediate care and food, housing, and resources. I feel so privileged to be able to help anyone in need.

I hope the small amount I am able to give in some way improves the lives of those less fortunate. Your boots on the ground and the hygiene kits let others know we do care.

By helping to pack hygiene kits, or providing money to help purchase items for the kits or other needed products, my small donation can have a large impact for those who need the help.
