On November 15, 2018, Heart to Heart International (HHI), with the charitable support of Wells Fargo, joined with Apache Innovative School to build hygiene kits for people in need.
Last month, to coordinate with Apache’s 4th grade lessons on natural disasters, a representative of HHI visited the school and discussed HHI’s disaster responses, including medical services, humanitarian aid distribution and the assembly and distribution of hygiene kits through PowrServ, a program of HHI. Students at Apache, one of two innovative schools in the Shawnee Mission school district that focuses on project-based learning, were engaged, curious and asked many questions throughout the presentation.
A few weeks later, HHI received a Wells Fargo Community grant and coordinated with Apache staff to schedule a PowrServ hygiene kit assembly. Raising money for a hygiene kit assembly was not a possibility for the students at Apache, but through the generosity of Wells Fargo, the children were able to participate in a hands-on activity that not only corresponded to their lessons on natural disaster, but also incorporated the innovative school’s hands-on approach through a charitable give-back opportunity.
The hygiene kit assembly program took place on National Philanthropy Day, which is a day dedicated to encouraging philanthropy in all aspects of work and life, for children and adults alike.
