Our Lab team has been busy this year, successfully installing on-site point-of-care laboratories in five clinics across the United States. This initiative is all about bringing faster, more efficient diagnoses and treatments directly to patients, especially those in under-resourced communities. By equipping these clinics with the ability to perform crucial tests on-site, we’re reducing barriers to care and ensuring patients get the answers and treatment they need in a single visit.

Our first stop was the Appalachian Highlands to partner with Friends in Need Health Center. This dedicated clinic serves nine counties across Tennessee and Virginia, offering vital primary and dental care to the uninsured and underinsured. Following their impactful work after Hurricane Helene, HHI provided a grant to transform an old exam room into a functional lab space. Completed on April 4, 2025, their new lab includes nine testing systems, enabling them to offer immediate results and better manage patient care.
Then, we headed to Health for All in Bryan, Texas. This clinic has been a cornerstone of its community for 38 years, providing free, high-quality care to uninsured, low-income individuals. On May 16, 2025, their new point-of-care lab was completed, with staff trained on eleven different testing systems, including A1c, lipid panels, and rapid tests for Strep A and COVID. This means immediate results and a more streamlined path to treatment for thousands of patients annually.
In River Junction, Vermont, we collaborated with Good Neighbor Health Clinic, an organization that has been providing free medical and dental care to uninsured and underinsured adult residents in a region called the Upper Valley since 1992. During the installation, which was completed on May 23, 2025, clinic providers and staff expressed their excitement about the new point-of-care laboratory capabilities and what it will mean for their patients. Their new point-of-care lab, equipped with 12 testing systems, will enable the clinic to provide immediate results and treatment for their patients, all within a single visit.
Our work continued in Caldwell, Idaho, with Genesis Community Health, an organization born out of necessity in 2002 to serve uninsured and economically disadvantaged residents. With two locations, Genesis provides comprehensive medical and dental care. On June 10, 2025, their Garden City location saw the successful completion of their point-of-care lab, empowering six staff members with seven testing systems for immediate results on conditions like A1c, lipid panels, and flu.
Finally, we completed the installation at Charis Health Center in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, on June 27, 2025. As Executive Director Dr. Courtney Johnson put it, “The addition of our new point-of-care lab allows providers to make faster, more informed treatment decisions—especially for chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension—greatly improving efficiency and delivering better outcomes for our uninsured patients who can’t afford to wait.”
These installations, made possible with support from BD, Henry Schein Cares, and the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, are more than just new equipment; they are about empowering communities and transforming lives through accessible, efficient healthcare. We look forward to seeing the continued positive impact these labs will have.
