2019 Spring DRT Workshop

Neither pouring rain or snow in late March dampened the enthusiasm of the volunteers who participated in Heart to Heart International’s 2019 Spring Disaster Response Training Workshop. The 38 medical, logistics and communications volunteers attended lectures and participated in hands-on training from March 28 to March 31 at Lake Doniphan Retreat Center in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. As the final step for volunteers to becoming fully vetted members of the Disaster Response Team, the workshop equips attendees with the knowledge necessary for successful disaster response deployments.

2019 St. Patrick Parade

Heart to Heart International (HHI) was well represented in the 2019 Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. Joining 90 other parade entries, volunteer Phil Meier drove the HHI Mobile Medical Unit from Lenexa to participate in the 2.5 mile parade through downtown Lawrence. Joining Phil were regular volunteers Donna Lamano , Michael Van Horn, and Ben Gleeson. Also joining the team were volunteers-for-a-day Kate Gleeson, Louise Gleeson (5 months old and her first parade), Max Shipley (age 5), Zach Shipley (age 3), and special guest, Glenn “Woody” Woodmancy – also his first parade. Woody is a 96-year-old WWII veteran living in Olathe, Kansas, who served in the Army Air Corps as a B-24 pilot in the South Pacific conducting photo reconnaissance missions.
