Access to OTC meds also promotes preventive care and enables individuals to address minor health issues before they become serious. By filling a critical gap in healthcare access, these donations improve quality of life and support healthier communities across the state.
Health and Hope Clinic, Florida
The migraine medication is lifechanging for our migraine sufferers. Most patients are unable to tolerate one or both of the older prophylaxis and episodic migraine treatment. This medication is able to be used in both scenarios. It is unavailable to those with little to no income. Our patients also greatly appreciate any over-the-counter medications as these are often seen a common place but most of our patients are not able to afford even the OTC meds.

“I would like to thank them for the medicines they give us, and I hope that they continue to help us,” shared 82-year-old Jose Saravia. In San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Jose struggled to find medication for his debilitating migraines. In partnership with Cross Catholic Outreach and The Pearl Association, we provide vital, specific medicines that public facilities often lack. This critical support brought Jose much-needed relief and is helping bridge healthcare gaps for many.
Maternal Care
We support the Maison de Naissance in Haiti, a birthing home dedicated to healthy mothers and babies. We provide the home with essential medical supplies like Chloraprep, a crucial tool for infection prevention during deliveries, blood draws and vaccinations. They reported to us: “This is a basic but very necessary supply when working in a remote, rural area where good hygiene and sanitation are not the general rule in everyday life, due to a lack of education and a lack of the requisite household supplies.” In 2024, the Maison de Naissance delivered over 380 healthy babies and provided thousands of prenatal and well-baby checkups. “We are very appreciative of the support we receive from Heart to Heart,” they said.
Medicine Access
Nelly, a young mother in Honduras, faces the daily challenges of living with epilepsy. Regular check-ups and lab tests are crucial for managing her condition. However, access to her necessary medications has been inconsistent. When not available at the hospital, these medicines are often prohibitively expensive at local pharmacies, forcing Nelly and others to make impossible choices between critical medicine or food to feed their families. Thanks to our Access to Medicine program, her hospital can provide vital medications to Nelly, and other patients like her, offering her a chance at a healthier future.

Matthew leads our Access to Medicine program, overseeing global pharmaceutical and medical supply partnerships that support health systems across Africa, Central America, and the United States. A licensed pharmacist with nearly a decade of experience in community and clinical practice, he has managed pharmacy teams, clinical services, adherence programs, and healthcare partnerships. At HHI, Matthew is advancing a transition from a reactive donation model to a proactive, programmatic approach aligned with national priorities and the WHO Essential Medicines List, building sustainable systems that strengthen continuity of care. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas and is dedicated to improving health equity and expanding access to essential medicines worldwide.
