Responding to Historic Flooding in Hawaii

Hawaii Flooding

Hawaii has been battered by a series of intense storm systems in recent weeks, leading to widespread flooding, power outages, and damage. In late March Hawaii experienced its worst flooding in over 20 years. Heavy rainfall, exacerbated by back-to-back “Kona-Low” weather systems, dropped up to 50 inches of rain over a 10-day period across multiple counties. Another storm system dropped heavy rains across the islands over the weekend. With the ground already saturated from last week’s storm, the risk of flash flooding is high.

Our Response to Flooding in Hawaii

Our Disaster Response Team has been monitoring the situation and reaching out to partners in the region since the initial flooding in late March. We have sent two shipments of 3,000 hygiene kits each to Project Vision Hawai’i, with one shipment going to Maui and the other to Oahu. We worked extensively with Project Vision Hawai’i during the Maui Wildfires in 2023, and this existing relationship will ensure the critical hygiene items get into the hands of those who need them most quickly and effectively.

We continue to monitor the ongoing healthcare needs as the flooding continues and are prepared to send more aid if requested.
