Portable Clinics Provide Lifesaving Resources in the Aftermath of Earthquake

In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria on February 6, 2023, In an effort to support healthcare for those in need, Heart to Heart International delivered three portable health clinics to the affected areas. The clinics are being staffed by our longtime trusted partners and have become essential components of the local healthcare systems in the communities they serve.

Diverse Medical Services

The clinics offer a wide range of essential medical services, including radiology, pediatrics, maternal health and emergency care. These services are pivotal in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions, such as trauma, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. In addition, the clinic plays a crucial role in preventing and managing infections and gastrointestinal illnesses, especially those stemming from overcrowded settlements.

Improved Efficiency and Accessibility

One of the standout features of these clinics are their transportability and immediate usability. This innovation has significantly reduced the workload on the healthcare staff, shortened patient wait times, and proved invaluable in responding to medical emergencies.

A Tale of Triumph

The clinic’s impact is exemplified by a heartwarming success story. A child, injured by a military explosive device, underwent a hand amputation and received initial care at the clinic, followed by a hospital stay for stabilization. The clinic continued to monitor the child’s progress through its advanced X-ray capabilities. Thanks to this continuous monitoring, the child’s safe recovery and healing became a reality.

Game-Changing Radiology

Khaled Abdel-Aal, a radiologic technician at the hospital, speaks with enthusiasm about the new X-ray machine at the clinic. He appreciates its time-saving features and its ability to produce clear, high-quality images. This innovative machine transfers images directly to a computer, eliminating the need for cassette replacement after each image, which has been a game-changer for the medical staff.

Dedicated Patient Care

The clinic has also played a crucial role in the recovery of individuals like M. Khatun, who suffered a left tibia thorn break while working in a maintenance workshop. After receiving the necessary assessments and aid at the clinic, including the installation of an appropriate splint, he continued to visit the clinic as scheduled until his full recovery.

A Beacon of Healing

Another success story is that of M. Khaled, a 28-year-old who was involved in a traffic accident that resulted in multiple traumas. After being hospitalized at one of the clinics, he underwent the necessary testing, and an effective management plan was developed by the doctor and the medical staff. After thorough care and monitoring, he was safely discharged, with follow-up appointments to track his progress.

Heart to Heart International’s portable trauma clinics were made possible thanks to our invaluable donor partners, and the clinics’ diverse medical services, state-of-the-art technology and dedicated healthcare professionals are making a significant difference in the lives of those affected by the disaster, bringing healing, recovery, and a brighter future to the community it serves.
