Volunteer Spotlight: Patty Brehm

As one of the volunteers at the front desk of HHI headquarters, Patty Brehm is always busy – answering phones, writing letters, helping visitors – you name it. But, who is the person behind all that? Patty graciously agreed to answer some questions so we could get to know her better. Thank you for everything you do for us, Patty!

Q&A with Patty Brehm

What have you worked on as a volunteer for HHI?

I work at the front desk, which includes a lot. We help with mailings, phone calls, donations, etc. Too much to list it all! I have also help with other projects as needed.

How long have you been volunteering?
I think it was 2016 or 2017. It was right after a disaster when I applied. Happy to help!

What is your background in the field?
My entire life was in banking as a commercial lender. I made commercial loans to all sort of businesses, such as real estate, lines of credit, equipment, SBA, acquisitions, etc. I also have spent time in fundraising events with other organizations and love learning from both.

What made you want to start volunteering in general and/or with HHI? I like making a difference in people’s life. It is very fulfilling and rewarding work.

Do you have a particular story/stories that sticks with you from your volunteer experiences that you could share?
Some of your staff probably have stories about me! Lol. Thank you to everyone for answering all of my questions! (Especially Debbie!!)

How has your experience been volunteering with HHI?
Great! Love the people. Everyone is very patient and understanding. A joy to be around!

What is it about the Heart to Heart International’s cause that is inspiring to you?
I have two children who work in the healthcare and social service industries. Everyone can make an impact in someone’s life, and there is SO much need in this world.

What do you tell your friends/family about Heart to Heart International and why you volunteer?
I love learning about your mission and how you are able to navigate the communities in need.

What is your biggest takeaway from your volunteer experiences?
Everyone should volunteer somewhere. The world needs more people to help make a difference. Every little bit helps!
