Hurricane Helene Response

Hurricane Helene’s devastating aftermath continues to unfold across the Southeastern United States. The storm, the most powerful hurricane on record to strike the region, made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on Thursday night as a Category 4 with winds reaching a destructive 140 mph. As of now, the death toll has exceeded 90, and millions remain without power. The storm’s destructive path has impacted multiple states, leaving widespread damage in its wake

Heart to Heart International’s Response:

An assessment team from HHI’s Disaster Response Team has been deployed to Florida and Georgia to evaluate the urgent needs of impacted communities. After consulting with local partners and government agencies, HHI has deployed an additional team to North Carolina to assess the flooding situation in the western part of the state.

Shipments of Aid:

A first shipment of hygiene kits and medical supplies has already been sent to the region. Tens of thousands more hygiene kits are being prepared for distribution to 14 partners and healthcare facilities in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. Aid has been offered to more than 100 existing and potential partners, and HHI’s Mobile Medical Unit and medical team will be stationed in the area that requires the most immediate assistance, as determined in coordination with state emergency operations centers.

The destruction caused by Hurricane Helene is immense, and the need for support is great across all three states. HHI remains committed to providing essential medical care and medical and hygiene supplies to those affected, ensuring that our aid reaches those most in need.
