Ukraine Crisis Update

As of July 5, 2022, 348 attacks on healthcare infrastructure have been verified in Ukraine. These attacks deprive people of urgently needed care, endanger healthcare providers, and undermine health systems.
– World Health Organization
The first three portable medical clinics have arrived in Ukraine. These units are fully equipped and ready to immediately operate as medical facilities in disaster areas, regardless of the surrounding area’s infrastructure. Heart to Heart International has been working with our partner The Gorta Group and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine to determine the best locations for these units.

The clinics were also packed with thousands of hygiene kits and food packs, which will be distributed in the affected areas. Heart to Heart International will be shipping an additional 12 clinics, including trauma clinics and maternal health units, to Ukraine later this summer. Read more!
These first three clinics include a laboratory and two primary care clinics donated to Heart to Heart International by Worksite Labs and Clinic in a Can.

Medical aid making an impact in Ukraine

Meeting partners in Guatemala

Heart to Heart International staff traveled to Guatemala in June to meet with partner organizations and visit the hospitals and clinics that receive HHI’s medicines and medical supplies. HHI discussed with partners their patients’ typical conditions and what supplies and medications are needed but are difficult to obtain. HHI also saw the warehouse operations that distribute supplies throughout the country.

Care Beyond the Boulevard

Care Beyond the Boulevard (CBB) is a Metro Kansas City nonprofit providing quality healthcare to those experiencing homelessness, poverty and with little or no insurance. The organization has been searching for a laboratory partner for more than three years with no luck. Thankfully, through a longstanding partnership with Heart to Heart International and with funding from the Wiley Foundation, a new point-of-care laboratory was established in June to serve the more than 1,500 patients treated by the organization each year. Recognition for COVID-19 work

Debra Kellison (left) from the Johnson County Health Department came by Heart to Heart International headquarters to present members of the KC Programs team with a certificate to thank HHI for its efforts in fighting COVID-19 through testing and vaccination clinics.

“We couldn’t have done it without you,” Kellison told Stacy Tobin (center), HHI KC Programs Manager, and Kealy Houlihan (right), HHI Manager of Community Health Services.

Throughout our 30th anniversary, we will be highlighting sponsors and partners who’ve been with us over the years.

American Academy of Family Physicians
American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation

The official partnership between Heart to Heart International (HHI) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation began in 1993. The AAFP and the AAFP have supported the mission of HHI both financially and by deploying hundreds of physicians and non-medical volunteers in the aftermath of disasters and on volunteer service trips, including through the long-running Physicians With Heart program.
