On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 12, a magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck near the heavily populated region of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. Emergency officials expect the death toll to exceed 100,000. This Caribbean island was already severely underserved (ranking as one of the poorest nations in the Western hemisphere).
Because of this fact, Heart to Heart has actively promoted health in Haiti for more than a decade. Our staff is in Port-au-Prince, and we have created a "humanitarian bridge" from the United States through the Dominican Republic into Haiti. Working alongside our local partners, we are working to address major health concerns as minor injuries have not been treated (since few healthcare facilities are operational). In most of these cases, we're in a race against time.
You can help our efforts by making an online donation right now. We have already delivered several shipments of medical aid, but we will need your support to keep the aid flowing to those most in need in Haiti.

Another way you can help in the near term is by assembling Heart to Heart Care Kits. These personal hygiene kits help disaster survivors fight water-borne and airborne diseases that linger long after a crisis hits their region.
We also need scores of volunteers locally, nationally and internationally to assist in our relief efforts. Sign up today for our volunteer bank. We'll keep you apprised of volunteer needs over the upcoming days and weeks.
Heart to Heart International is improving global health through humanitarian initiatives that connect people and resources to a world in need. We achieve this mission by engaging strategic partners, volunteers and donors in our efforts to build healthcare capacity, increase access to health, respond to people in crisis, and strengthen communities in the United States and in more than 60 countries around the world every year.
