HHI Set for Final Step of WHO Verification
Last month, HHI’s Disaster Response Team got one step closer to becoming certified by the World Health Organization as a Mobile Emergency Medical Team (EMT). Three officials designated by the WHO and Pan American Health Organization visited our headquarters and assessed the team’s readiness and evaluated its processes, equipment and simulations. With positive feedback, the team was cleared for the final step of verification this fall. Read more!
 

Addressing Diabetes and Eye Health

Did you know uncontrolled diabetes can lead to vision problems? Because of this, it is imperative to offer comprehensive eye exams and A1C level testing in one accessible location, especially in under-resourced communities. 

Read about how Heart to Heart International’s Community Health program joined forces with The Community Health Council (CHC) of Wyandotte County, Vibrant Health and KC Free Eye Clinic, for an event that addressed both vision and diabetes!

Interns Learn and Give Back at HHI

HHI had the joy of welcoming Mica and Nisha, both international students, for our summer 2023 internship program. These interns had the opportunity to learn about working in a nonprofit, gain experience and have the opportunity to give back. Nisha summed up her experience: “This enriching experience not only shaped my academic journey but also deepened my commitment to making a positive difference in the field of public service.”

Volunteers Travel to Africa to Improve Health

Heart to Heart International is partnering with BD for a volunteer service trip to Eswatini to train local nurses and healthcare workers to identify and treat non-communicable diseases and help rebuild a local health clinic in disrepair. The team from BD and HHI will be working in the southeastern African country for two weeks. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for updates from the trip!
