Flooding in Pakistan

So far this year, the rain in Pakistan is more than 780% above average levels. This is causing catastrophic flooding, which is impacting more than 33 million people in Pakistan, and the monsoon season isn’t over until the end of September. Our shipment of almost 6 tons of critical medical aid arrived in Pakistan last week. The aid is being distributed by our partner Poverty Eradication Institute in regions hit hard by the flooding. We are continuing to talk with partners about what additional aid they need.

Portable medical clinics making difference in Ukraine

Watch an update from Wes Comfort on Heart to Heart International’s Disaster Response Team. He was in Ukraine earlier this summer to check on the arrival of HHI’s first three portable medical clinics (donated by Clinic in a Can and Worksite Labs) and to help partners determine needs and locations for the next 12 clinics.

All 15 of these clinics will help alleviate the stress from the influx of patients at hospitals by offering extra space and serve as stand-alone clinics in areas where the existing medical infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged.

Ukraine may not be the top news story anymore,
but the need remains just as strong.

Medical aid distribution throughout Ukraine

With more than 500 attacks on healthcare in Ukraine, we have been distributed medicines and medical aid to clinics and hospitals throughout Ukraine. Some of this aid includes critical Interagency Emergency Health Kits. Each of these kits contain medications to treat 10,000 people for up to three months and are specifically designed to meet the priority health needs of a population affected by emergencies. Puerto Rico vaccination project

HHI is supporting a project called Epi-Net in partnership with a medical school in Puerto Rico. The goal is to increase acceptability of COVID-19 testing and prevention in socially vulnerable communities and provide vaccination in those areas. The Epi-Net team reaches out to communities to provide COVID-19 training and testing, and after those initial sessions, the team comes back with a mobile medical vehicle to offer vaccinations. In August, the team was able to vaccinate more than 75 people through the program. Read more!

Health and dental kits at back-to-school fair

Heart to Heart International participated in a back-to-school fair hosted by Equal Start, which provides low-income families school resources and access to care. More than 250 families attended the back-to-school fair, and Heart to Heart International was there to give out COVID-19 information, discuss the importance of vaccinations, and hand out hygiene kits, hand sanitizer and dental kits. We are tremendously grateful for the longtime partnership with Ad Astra. The relationship first began in 2006 and continues today.

In addition to giving generous donations for disaster relief and general programs, Ad Astra provides its employees opportunities to volunteer in hands-on, meaningful ways through participation with Heart to Heart International in a volunteer service trip to Guatemala in 2012 and many hygiene kit assembly events in the past several years.
