Severe Floods and Landslides Devastate Border Region of Nepal

Nepal Floods

Catastrophic flash floods and landslides near the Nepal-Tibet border have killed at least 350 people and left more than 1,300 missing. Triggered by a collapse of glacial rock and ice, a wall of water flooded mountain communities.

Nepal faces ongoing danger from glacial lake outbursts (“island tsunamis) caused when overfilled glacial pools breach their banks. With additional flooding possible, flood alerts are active in downstream regions.

Heart to Heart International’s Disaster Response Team is actively preparing shipments of hygiene kits for distribution with two partners in Nepal. We are also coordinating with those partners to assess health infrastructure impacts and additional healthcare needs.

Check back for updates as the situation continues to develop.
