Heart to Heart International (HHI) is actively responding to the West Virginia floods, providing critical medical supplies and hygiene assistance to communities impacted by severe flooding across the state.
A Rare Flash Flood Emergency
On July 21, 2026, severe storms dropped up to 7.6 inches of rain within a devastating six-hour span over central and northern West Virginia. This catastrophic weather event triggered a rare, life-threatening flash flood emergency for nearly 50,000 residents across Upshur, Lewis, Harrison, Taylor, Marion, and Pleasants counties.
Following the storms, Gov. Patrick Morrisey declared a state of emergency for all 55 counties, mobilizing hundreds of National Guard members to the hardest-hit northern regions. While there are currently no reported deaths or injuries, several individuals remain unaccounted for. First responders are working tirelessly to conduct water rescues, clear impassable roadways, and reach flooded homes. The severe storm conditions and blocked roads have even compromised two local hospitals, according to FEMA.
Heart to Heart International’s West Virginia Flood Response
Heart to Heart International is supporting West Virginia Health Right, a trusted healthcare partner that also received assistance from HHI during similar flooding last year.
To help meet immediate community needs, we are providing:
- 1,200 hygiene kits for individuals and families affected by the flooding
- 250 doses of Tdap vaccine to support ongoing public health and healthcare services
These supplies will help communities address immediate health concerns as recovery efforts continue and access to essential resources is restored.
Our emergency response team continues to monitor the situation closely. We are actively communicating with our partners on the ground to assess emerging needs and scale our recovery efforts as impassable roads are cleared and the full extent of the damage is revealed.
