Teaching COVID-19 awareness in Haitian schools

September 30, 2020 – In partnership with the Mayor of Kenscoff, Haiti, Heart to Heart International’s Community Health Mobilizers are taking their COVID-19 Awareness program to six local schools, reaching 80 classrooms and more than 2,000 students.

These Community Health Mobilizers are teaching children about the importance of wearing masks, social distancing, and practicing hand hygiene.

Heart to Heart International – Haiti has been involved with several Cholera responses in Haiti, and those experiences have shown how important educating students is for community awareness. When students are taught, they take their knowledge back to their families and neighborhoods.

The same agents who are teaching in the schools have also been involved in a five-month awareness campaign in five open-air markets of Petion-ville and Kenscoff. Through that campaign, they have reached over 10,000 vendors and established more than 80 handwashing stations.
